Modern Mantel

This GrainStories custom mantel blends modern minimalism with rustic authenticity. A salvaged walnut slab with natural contours anchors the design, while a black epoxy band provides a sleek, floating effect that maintains the wood’s character. Discreet LED backlighting creates a soft glow after dark, transforming the mantel into a subtle, sculptural focal point that always feels at home in the space.

Materials and Dimensions

3” thick salvaged walnut slab forming the warm face and character grain you see across the front. Natural contours and voids filled with black epoxy to stabilize the live edge and create that clean modern contrast band. Allowing the wood to guide elements of design, walnut sections are joined and glued into a solid, wraparound mantel (front + returns) for a seamless, monolithic beam look installed as a wraparound on a concrete fireplace for a crisp, architectural fit. Integrated LED backlight concealed behind the mantel to cast a soft halo glow onto the wall

Each frame is made to order from salvaged boards and offcuts, preserving natural character like subtle knots, weathering, and saw marks, then refined with crisp joinery and a protective finish.
